Lady Igraine was married to the ruler of Dumonnia but she had an affair with Uther Pendragon, the claimant to the throne of all Britannia, and fell pregnant with the future King Arthur. She gave birth to their illegitimate son on the beach beside Tintagel Castle to avoid detection of her husband[Pan 2].
"The circumstances of Arthur's birth are based on the real story of Arthur's birth on the beach of Tintagel Castle, however in the original story Uther Pendragon[Ext 1] disguised himself as Igraine's[Ext 2] husband and raped her. Obviously this would be a distasteful passage to write in a light-hearted comedy parody so for our story I wrote it as a consented affair." ~ Britt the Writer
