Ford was once one of the Heroes of the Never-ending Story and one of the last remaining NeS Scholars. He is an intellectual and fully capable in Arcane Magic. However Ford experienced an unusually time-paradox whereby he both spent time aiding the NeS Heroes, but also spent several years in jail (alongside Maeve) - both at the same time. The paradox eventually collapsed and the two versions of Ford merged into one. After offering to help guide the NeS Heroes into Hell Ford was assumed to be a permenant member of the Hero team without any negotiation on the matter. Ford has also met one of his living relatives, Mustang Ford, who has lived for at least a hundred years. Ford carries around a sentient Cheshire Zippo lighter. Cheshire Zippo is the only known creature that can hear Fred teh Uber Blade besides Fred's wielder.
