The magical island of Avalon once sat off of the coast of England and was created and owned by Morganna le Fay who sought a refuge of her own away from the rest of humanity. She usually allowed only magical beings upon the island, though Tom a'Lincoln was an exception to this rule as his wife, Sir Caelia, lived upon the island. The island was something of a Edenic paradise but Morganna ultimately sacrificed the island in order to use its magical reserve to help her half-brother, King Arthur, raise the spacecraft Camelot from its slumber beneath the land. She maintained a small pocket of the island within her magical reserve that she could summon and rest in whenever she felt homesick.

Description

Appearance

After Avalon was destroyed, a single remnant of Avalon remained. To most it appears like a Garden of Eden. Tall trees that bloom with assorted flowers of pink and blue, seeming to glow their hue with a magical aura, and shrubberies. A small path runs through the mini-woodland, but it's little more than well-trodden soil that has been walked by the woodland's inhabitants. The plants will move to accommodate the humanoid inhabitants[Pan 1].

History

Space Camelot

In order to raise Camelot from beneath England, Merlin the Elder supposed that a huge reserve of magical energy could be used to power the vessel's engines and get it started. Merlin suggested that King Arthur make a request of Merlin's former student, and Arthur's half-sister, Morganna le Fay. She would have to sacrifice her magical island home to expel the massive amount of magic required to raise Camelot. Though she initially refused, she was goaded into relenting on the condition that she would be aboard the ship when it left the Earth[Pan 2]. She was so attached to Avalon that she had a nightmare about destroying it[Pan 3], but despite her doubts she did the deed and used the energy in a great spell to shunt the magical energy into the huge engines of the space craft[Pan 4]. After its destruction, she was able to preserve a remnant of it and project it in places whenever she missed it, such as on the planet Uranus[Pan 1].

Notes

Britt's Commentary

"Avalon is based on the original Avalon[Ext 1] from Arthurian Legend[Ext 2], though in Space Camelot the island was created by Morgan le Fay[Ext 3]." ~ Britt the Writer
