This page does NOT detail the events of the Never-ending Story; rather, it provides a broad overview of the setting's timeline throughout past and future.

Before the Universe[]

Before the NeSiverse came into being, there was another universe in its place, in the Deep Void. Little is known of this previous universe, but it was ruled by Galen, Shepherd of Life and Death, before being destroyed by the mysterious Cosmic Destructors[Pan 1].

c. 14 Billion B.C.[Ext Ref 1][]

Beginning of the Universe[]

The nascent sentience of Memnoch witnessed a Voice calling the NeSiverse into being[Pan 1][Pan 2]. It is possible that this Voice belonged to the WriterGod or to the Nameless.

The titans, called by this Voice, enter the new existence and construct the NeSiverse, and time begins as they create Aeon, the Cosmic God of Time[Pan 2]. They also create the ur-dragon Typhon[Pan 3].However, before the titans can leave, to continue their work of building universes, they are trapped by the God-Monarchs, who have traveled back through time to do so[Pan 2].

c. 13 Billion B.C.[]

Founding of Mega Jonestown Prime[]

Near the dawn of time[HFO 1], the great space city of Mega Jonestown Prime is founded by Imeryn[Pan 4], the first of the God-Monarchs.

c. 4.5 Billion B.C.[Ext Ref 2][]

Creation of the Earth[]

To curry the favor of the God-Monarchs, the cosmic deities Three Fates, Aeon, and the Runekeeper construct the Earth as a locus of time, fate, and magic[HFO 2][NeS2 1].

c. 2 Billion B.C.[]

Creation of the Djinni[]

Kavili, a goddess of Indra, discovers the imprisoned titan Kronos, and together they create the universe of the djinni[Pan 5], which eons later are summoned by Shinzallar[Pan 6].

c. 65.5 Million B.C.[]

Creation of Humanity[]

With their creation of Earth selected by the God-Monarchs to receive Mega Jonestown Prime's favor, the cosmic gods Three Fates, Aeon, and the Runekeeper begin to create humanity as the crowning jewel.

However, just before the process is completed, the WriterGod, at the behest of the Ancient One (then known as AncientWriter the Writer), usurps theEarth and its destiny, breathing life into the first human, who would later become known as Arkng Thand. This is all witnessed by the time-traveling Britt[NeS2 1][HFO 2][HFO 3].

Humanity indeed receives the greatest destiny of all species, edging out the Greys[CatH 1], who were created by Memnoch, Phractal, and The Big O in their own attempt to win the favor of the God-Monarchs[HFO 4].

However, pacts are made between the cosmic deities and the WriterGod that the Never-ending Story's influence will not spread beyond Earth[HFO 2].

After his creation, the first man is named Adam Terraleph by the WriterGod, taken to Eden, and given free will, which he uses first to name everything. After this, however, he is lonely, and so the WriterGod makes Eve, the first woman, to be his companion[HFO 5].

However, Adam Terraleph and Eve eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and are banished from Eden, at which point they begin the process of procreating the human race[HFO 6].

Creation of Earth's Hell & Heaven[]

When humans came into being, so too did Hell. It was created by the WriterGod as a place of punishment and rehabilitation. As he did not want it to be like Tartarus, he employed one of his primordial angels to warden the realm - Helebon. At the same time, WriterGod created his own Heaven and a new order of angels meant to watch over humanity. This new angel hierarchy included several archangels and the guardian angels. Ouriel was tasked with overseeing the angels, while Pronoia was tasked with overseeing the humans. Some angels were assigned to work in Hell along with Helebon, such as Lucyfer and Astaroth. Hell was also given additional locations, both Purgatory and Limbo were created in the earliest stages[HFU 1].

Creation of Multiple Religions[]

As soon as Adam and Eve bore children, those children and their descendents joined or formed new religions with other beliefs and/or deities. This also created new religion-based dimensions, such as Hades (Underworld) and Duat. These religions were often centric to different cultures that spanned from the children of the first two humans[HFU 1].

Helebon's Fall[]

The Birth of Marus[]

Helebon, the caretaker of Hell, under the jurisdiction of WriterGod, was being malformed by his existence in Hell, as were other angels that had been assigned there, such as Astaroth. Helebon had entered into a relationship with another angel, named Ariana, who crafted Helebon's Cloak - a shroud to conceal his divine light. They had a child, they named Marcus, much to the disgust of the other angels. Entities of the rival religions were not so abrasive on the subject and Ariana became more involved with these gods, to the point that Zeus became 'god parent', something he made up, of Marcus. The requests from Ariana and Helebon for Helebon to leave Hell were constantly rejected by WriterGod, further corrupting Helebon. He decided to start incorporating aspects from rival underworlds, such as Duat, where more extreme measures and punishments were standard[HFU 1].

The Birth of Stan[]

Ariana's visits to Hell were infrequent, but she fell pregnant with a second child to Helebon, Ruler of Hell. Neither of their children were welcome in Heaven. Marcus, the elder child, had spent much time with humans and appeared mostly human, but Stan was born in Hell and his appearance came to reflect this. Helebon decided to force the issue and entered Heaven. The other angels felt the corruption upon him and loathed him, WriterGod instantly banished him to Hell without conversation. Helebon became enraged by this and his treatment of prisoners grew dark[HFU 1].

Creation of the Circles of Hell[]

After being banished from Heaven, Helebon started to create segregated sections of Hell that would accommodate specific human souls for specific punishments. He called each of these a Circle and dubbed the crimes as Sins. He also allocated roles and territories to those angels who served him. He granted a fiefdom to Astaroth, who had become interested in the human condition they called sloth and oversaw punishments of that particular Sin. As he was banished from Heaven, along with those angels who dwelt in Hell, they were no longer considered angels due to the corruption upon them, but instead they were now demons. He also employed humans as demons who could mete out punishments upon their fellows, as well as fallen angels. Helebon, with this new system in place, dubbed himself Devil, the Ruler of Hell[HFU 1].

Lucyfer's Rebellion[]

Angels, disgruntled with WriterGod as he placed humans in greater esteem than them, fought against him. They believed that the WriterGod gave the humans much, and the angels nought. They sought freedom from this servitude and were led by the Archangel Lucyfer, who happened to be a friend to the Devil, Helebon. She, and many others, fought against WriterGod and his loyal subjects, but they were defeated. WriterGod punished them by casting them into Hell, perhaps thinking Helebon would punish them as he did with all wicked souls. Instead, Helebon welcomed them and even entered them into the hierarchy of Hell. The title of Prince of Hell was created to accommodate important fallen angels and grant them great lands across Hell. Lucyfer was one of those made a Prince, and her continued anti-WriterGod propaganda disseminated throughout Hell[HFU 1].

Disappearance of Mega Jonestown Prime[]

At some point in the dim mists of time[HFO 1], before the founding of Atlantis but after the creation of humanity[HFO 2], Highemperor arrives at Mega Jonestown Prime, whereupon he engages the God-Monarchs in combat.

The battle's outcome is unknown, but seems to be inconclusive. Highemperor retreats, and the very next day, Mega Jonestown Prime and its inhabitants (including the God-Monarchs) vanish completely.[HFO 1]

The Big O is the most powerful deity remaining in the NeSiverse, and becomes the ruler of the cosmos, though he delegates all governance to his vizier Fladnag the White[HFO 2][Pan 7].

Helebon's Rebellion[]

The first rebellion against WriterGod had been conducted by Lucyfer, but she, and those that joined her, had been cast into Hell upon their defeat, where, rather than punish, Helebon welcomed them into Hell's hierarchy. Lucyfer's anti-WriterGod propaganda disseminated throughout Hell and over time it fostered resentment amongst the demons and fallen angels and Helebon, Devil of Hell, was turned to the cause, observing the treatment of his own children. He found that there were others that would aid them in their act of vengeance against WriterGod - genies, led by Iblis, believed that WriterGod's chosen people, the Atlanteans, were a threat to other human cultures. Belphegor and Beelzebub, two great demons, also joined Helebon. But the attack was thwarted. Helebon was punished by being placed in Be’er Shachath, the Pit of Corruption[HFU 1].

Atlantis is Submerged[]

Atlantis is destroyed in a plot-hole, though some prominent survivors escape. Two surviving mage apprentices found Doughnutdelf[Pan 9], building Stonehenge atop of it, and Ubar[Pan 6].
